WHAT IS INVOLVED IN CERVICAL/NECK SPINAL DECOMPRESSION?
Cervical decompression traction provides mobilization of skeletal structures and muscles using longitudinal distraction forces (i.e. along the length of the spine) in order to relieve pressures that may be causing pain of skeletal or muscular origin. These effects are achieved through decompression/unloading of intervertebral discs, and increasing the joint spaces between joints. It may be used to relieve peripheral radiation and pain associated with:
*Protruding discs
*Spinal root impingement
*Bulging discs
*Hypomobility
*Herniated discs
*Degenerative joint disease
*Degenerative disc disease
*Facet syndrome
*Posterior facet syndrome
*Compression fracture
*Acute facet problems
*Joint pain
*Radicular pain
*Discogenic pain
*Prolapsed discs
WHAT DURATION DO I NEED?
Pain of acute nature tend to warrant short duration with intermittent pulling and relaxing. The weight of pulling is light.
Conditions of a chronic nature tend to warrant short duration with an intermittent or static pulling at the beginning, and is gradually progressed to longer duration. The weight of pulling progresses from lighter to heavier.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT SESSION
This type of treatment is conducted and supervised under Chiropractic Treatment, therefore an initial assessment and treatment session will be required in order to determine if you are a candidate for this form of treatment. If you are deemed as an appropriate candidate, treatment can be initiated.
Before the spinal decompression treatment is initiated, electrical currents (usually along with heat) will be placed over the neck/upper back regions to assist with increasing circulation to the region, allowing the muscles to relax, and decreasing pain. This will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
You will lay face up and be securely placed in a harness, and the treatment will be initiated. An emergency stop button will be given to you in the event of pain or discomfort.
